It is summer and people will be doing all sorts of fun things and one of them could be camping. Could your campsite be near the bears? If so, read on! You need to be safe while camping and this post will tell you how. I got the information from a book called "Necessary Skills Of Life And Some Others...".
1. While hiking, stay alert. If you are with a group of people talk so if you meet a bear it won't be such a surprise and you will stay calm which will also help you.
2. Don't be alone while hiking in bear country! If you meet a bear you will not be able to get help and that's important!
3. If you meet a bear wave your arms high in the air and call for help. Don't scream or yell, just call loud enough for someone to hear you. Not "AAAH! BEAR! SAVE ME! I'M GOING TO DIE!". Simply "Hey! I need help! There is a bear!". Don't go out of control! Retreat slowly and only call for help if the bear advances on you.
4. Watch for signs of bears. Bear droppings are tube shaped and if you see them don't follow them. On the trees you may see scratches. These are also signs of bears so don't go that way either. Lastly, bear tracks. See the pictures to know what they look like and don't follow them!
