Quebec Cuisine: Tire Sur La Neige

This is my first Quebec Cuisine post and I'm writing about the tasty dessert, Tire Sur La Neige. This is one of Quebec's many famous maple syrup desserts that Quebec is known for.  This is a very, very simple recipe and it should be easy for you to follow along. The recipe is a bit strange but trust me, it will be delicious. Here come the ingredients!
INGREDIENTS
1. Snow (This was the strange part!)
2. Maple Syrup
3. Butter
OTHER MATERIALS
1. Sticks
2. Pan
3. Tray
Let's start with that recipe:
1. Put the snow in your tray. It can be from outside but it should be clean with no mud, slush or dog dung. Freeze it.
2. Place your maple syrup in the pan and boil it to 130 degrees Celsius for seven minutes. While boiling, add your block of butter.
3. Take your snow out and place your sticks in it. Pour your maple syrup in lines on top of your sticks. Wait 5 or 6 minutes to turn the sticks and collect the maple syrup on to them. Now eat your taffy!
OTHER INFORMATION
Did you know, Tire Sur La Neige is not only eaten in Quebec but all of Northern Ontario? It is not only called Tire Sur La Neige but Tire D'erable as well! Tire Sur La Neige or Tire D'erable was first created in 1915. It is a very popular treat in Quebec and villages like Mont Tremblant (To see my post on that cute little village CLICK HERE).

So that's all about Tire Sur La Neige for now. It's a tasty treat as I said before that you should make. It is supposed to be served cold which would be nice in the summer but unfortunately, we don't have snow in the summer. So try it out and see how it goes! I've tried it myself using pancake syrup but it still tastes nice and sweet. Be sure to read my next post on poutine! COMING SOON!!
